Being Sex Positive
My Sex Positive Initiative in Normalizing Sex Based Conversations
In my ideal world sex would be a natural part of adulthood, free from shame, stigma, and taboo. Further that we would acknowledge all facets of sexuality, gender, relationship norms, and the like as part of the human experience, with the freedom to ask questions, and receive educated guidance. Bodies of all shapes, sizes, abilities, and colours would be accepted, even celebrated for their own uniqueness and the diversity that they bring us in our ability to pass on our genes, experience pleasure, and love. I believe this mission statement would make the world a better place, and this is why I love calling myself sex positive.
In my early adulthood, I was often that friend who “overshares”, or apologized for saying something overtly sexual in conversation. I have blamed this on many attributes to save face, such as my French heritage, my adoration of euphemisms, and of course, that I truly believe I am ‘puny’. This was my past, and as I continue to learn, and grow from my mistakes, and those of my peers the aim is to leave this problematic blame game behind. Thereby, fully embracing the word sex, and all that it encompasses as the natural adult human condition.
Sex is part of being a whole human, and this stands true even for those who are asexual…
